He has advised and represented numerous companies and associations nationally and internationally within the framework of a wide range of cases of investigation for anti-competitive practices and merger control, acting before administrative and judicial authorities at both national and Community level. He has also been involved in many issues with an important regulatory component in sectors such as energy, telecommunications, health and transport.
He is currently the VicePresident of the Spanish Association for the Defense of Competition (AEDC). He has also contributed to several specialized publications on Competition Law, such as the “Anuario de Problemas Prácticos y Actualidad del Derecho de la Competencia” (Civitas-Thomson Reuters), or the “Código de Derecho de la Competencia” (La Ley); finally, he is also a regular lecturer at the Universidad de Navarra and Université de Poitiers, among others.

He was awarded a Law Degree from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 1998 and gained a PhD in the Criminal Law Department from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He has worked in the Litigation Department of the firm CMS Albiñana & Suárez de Lezo (1999-2005) and later in litigation and arbitration at DLA Piper (2005-2008), until he became a founding partner at GOLD Abogados (2008) as head of Litigation and Arbitration.
He has extensive experience as the head lawyer in numerous domestic and international arbitrations and legal proceedings. He is an expert in handling civil cases related to regulated sectors such as energy and telecommunications, and has extensive experience in advice to ‘family offices’, construction and infrastructure companies, banks and large retailers.
He is also an attorney specializing in the handling of disputes relating to the private application of competition and unfair competition law, and has defended the interests of large companies in the most significant bankruptcy proceedings.

José has a Law Degree from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2003) and more than fourteen (14) years of professional experience. He has developed most of his professional career at international law firms such as Herbert Smith Freehills, where he was one of the founding members of the Spanish office, Linklaters and Garrigues, as well as at SolarReserve, where he was the Legal Director for the EMEA region and India.
He has advised on a wide range of transactions, both domestic and internationally, such as mergers and acquisitions, restructuring and reorganization of corporate groups, joint ventures and real estate transactions, representing industrial players, private equity funds, including venture capital, financial institutions, startups and individuals.
He has also extensive experience in the energy and infrastructures fields, having advised in the development, structuring, financing, operation and management phases of a great number of projects.
